When you think about specific features in games that truly excite you, what comes to mind? As a gamer, there are a few things that I adore in video games. There are four gaming elements in particular that always capture my attention in any video games I play. Find out what they are below. 😊🎮
Creating a Character
To start, I've always enjoyed games that give me the ability to create my own character. When I was younger, there wasn't a ton of customization options for characters in video games. However, even if I could only choose from premade characters, being able to change at least one thing about them was always a plus. Honestly, this is why the Sims series reigns as one of my favorite games. It capitalizes on the concept of customization, especially when it comes to characters. I want to customize hair, skin, clothing, traits, abilities, weapons, facial structure, and whatever else is possible for my characters.
Choices
My love for choice-based gaming has skyrocketed over the years with video games like Until Dawn, Life is Strange, Man of Medan, Detroit: Become Human, and more. I remember a choice-based game that I loved in the mid-2000s: The Hook Up on the-n.com. If you know, you know. When you aren't confined to a story that will make the choices for you every step of the way, it makes the game much more immersive. Games that give me the chance to make the wrong choices keep me on my toes.
Multiple Endings
Games like Until Dawn and Detroit: Become Human did an amazing job with this concept. Games that are usually choice-based are the ones that tend to have this gaming element. If I know that the ending of a game could be different depending on the choices I make, I know the ending I get is mine. I get that ending because of my choices, and it feels more personal than a default ending. It's also fun to compare your ending to others! Games that contain multiple endings are more interesting than games that have the same ending for everyone that plays it.
Never-ending customization
As I said before, I love creating my own character at the beginning of a game. Nonetheless, there's something that gives video games extra cool points when I know I can take customization a step further the more I play. Now, 95% of games are like this. Before, not so much. Call of Duty is a big one that comes to mind. The more you play, the more things you can unlock and use to customize how you play.
I'm sure you can tell how much I love a gaming experience that's mine. Creating my own character, making my own choices, earning my own ending and customizing how I want makes all the difference. I want my gaming experience to be mine! I know.
