I Ordered My Nintendo Switch!

May 9, 2020

< back to blog

Growing up, I didn't have too many different Nintendo consoles. I had a Super Nintendo, Gameboy Color, and years later, my mom got me a Nintendo Wii for my birthday. That was the extent of my Nintendo-ing. However, that's not to say I didn't put tons of hours into those consoles (and handheld), because I definitely did!

After having my Wii for years as a "side console" to my Playstation, I eventually left Playstation and moved on to Xbox, as many of you may know. I never felt inclined to get the Wii U or anything that released after the original Wii. I guess it's because I never considered my Nintendo console to be my "main one". I always thought of my Playstation or Xbox as my main console, because the majority of the games aren't exclusive to that one console as they are with the Nintendo ones.

Now that quarantine has hit and I see people constantly talking about Animal Crossing....I've caved. 🙃

Over the years, none of the games I've been hearing about for the Nintendo Switch captivated me enough for me to want to buy one. Even working at Best Buy for two years -- I never once thought about buying one. I just didn't care. And don't get me wrong! I played Nintendo a lot growing up -- Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, you name it! But those were never my favorites, even though I loved playing them.

**Also, I kept hearing that you can't even talk to people online while you play the Switch -- at least not with a headset. Is that true? Cause that's kinda dumb. On my Wii, I could talk to people through a headset soooooooo why downgrade??**

Now that everyone is talking about Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Nintendo Switch Lite is a thing, I'm interested! Back when I was on my Wii, I'd hear about Animal Crossing and I thought it was cool. But I never asked for the game for some reason. So until this day, I've never played it! Now that I'm an adult with my own job and can buy whatever games I want and everyone is talking about this game nonstop, I feel super inclined to play it. Especially since this pandemic is happening and I've been online shopping constantly. I mean, why not?

What draws me in about Animal Crossing is the fact that there seems to be a lot of customization (I talked about my obsession with customization in THIS post). Maybe not to the extreme extent I'd prefer, but enough for me to be intrigued. And the game seems super cute and chill. 🌺

Enters the Nintendo Switch Lite!

Why did I decide to get the Nintendo Switch Lite instead of the regular Nintendo Switch, you ask? Well, the OG Nintendo Switch is sold out everywhere. I wanted to get mine from Best Buy specifically, and they just haven't had any in stock for months. I ain't got time for dat. ✋🏾

I kept seeing them get the Nintendo Switch Lites in stock on and off, and I just felt like I was being teased to get one. Plus, I haven't had a handheld since my Gameboy Color, and I thought it'd be fun to have something that's 100% portable. Even though the OG Nintendo Switch can be taken off of its dock. But still! The colors the Lites come in are cuter to me. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I ordered the turquoise one. Most people thought that I'd have ordered the coral one, because it's a pink-ish color, but honestly -- I'm not super into pastel colors like that? I love vibrant, neon-esque color schemes. The turquoise was closer to that for me. Plus, I'm putting a skin on it anyways! Anywho, the only downfall of not getting the regular Switch is that I won't be able to dock it and play it on my TV. But I kinda feel like when Cyberpunk 2077 releases in September (which I'll either be playing on Xbox or PC), I won't really care about anything but that for awhile, so I'm not super pressed? I figured if it ends up bothering me that much, I'll just buy the Switch that comes with the dock. You can never have too many consoles. 🤗

As far as accessories go, I went all out! I bought a skin from decalgirl.com, a 256 GB micro SD card, a Nintendo Switch Lite carrying case, and a protection plan for my Lite all from bestbuy.com. I've decided to get my online subscription along with all of the games I'm interested in digitally on the Lite itself. I didn't feel like waiting for all of that to be shipped.

Speaking of being shipped -- my Lite was supposed to be here Friday, and it's been delayed to Tuesday. 😐 I thought I'd be spending my weekend playing Animal Crossing, but that dream is long gone. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Anyways, I'm super excited and I wanted to let you guys know that I had ordered a Lite! I will be doing another blog post very soon on my first impressions of the Lite and show you all of my accessories. If you have any game recommendations other than Animal Crossing: New Horizons, be sure to comment them below!
