It's almost time for the final season of 13 Reasons Why to drop on Netflix. Tomorrow will be the last time we experience the anticipation of another season of this show releasing. I can't believe this is actually the end! I've been watching this show since the first season, and I've kept up with it ever since. I'm fully aware that a lot of people felt this show should've ended after the first season. I'm not one of those people. Once I like a show, I don't think I'm ever one of those people? I want it to continue forever. 🥰
Now, let's talk about the season 4 trailer.
For those of you that haven't seen the trailer or if you just wanna rewatch it...
As you can see, there's a lot going on in this trailer. From what I can make out of it all, it looks like Winston is coming back to avenge Monty (which I think is mad weird, but we'll get into that in a bit 🙄), Clay is hallucinating again, Tyler's homecoming fiasco is rising to the surface again -- I mean, the list goes on.
There are 5 main topics depicted in the trailer that I want to touch on.
Will they get in trouble?
In season three, Monty was framed by practically the entire cast for Bryce's death. Based on what we saw, Alex was the one that truly killed Bryce. I was pretty pissed when I saw how easily they all got away with framing Monty. It seems as if Winston is going to give the cast a run for their money based on what we observed in the trailer. I actually wouldn't be upset about this at all -- even though I have my qualms about Winston being the person to get justice for Monty.
Why is Winston trying to avenge Monty?
I absolutely cannot be the only one that thinks it's bizarre as hell for Winston to be trying to get revenge for Monty after knowing him for like...a month.....if that. I get it. For some strange reason, this kid likes Monty. Even after Monty beat his face in after they were intimate. 💀 Clearly, he's sprung over something. That's his business. But the fact that he's willing to go SO HARD for someone he barely even knows???? Someone that beat him up the same day they met???? Eh.....I dunno. Something about the situation just seems really weird to me. I mean, sure. Maybe him and Monty were closer than we all think -- but considering what we were shown last season? I find that extremely hard to believe.
Clay's hallucinations are back?
It seems as if the hallucinations Clay experienced in season 2 have returned. I'd hate for us to go through this entire final season and see that it was just one big hallucination. I'm praying that's not the case, because I really want this season to go out with a bang. If it's compiled of a bunch of hallucinations -- I can't say that I'll genuinely be content with this season. It'll give off a sense of insufficiency and I'm not okay with that.
Tyler's dark past is back?
In the trailer, it looks like someone (I'm assuming Winston) is bringing Tyler's homecoming incident back from the grave, maybe as a way to blackmail him. I'm guessing it's part of Winston's plan to expose not only how they all lied to cover up what really happened with Bryce's death, but anything else they've done that could potentially get them in trouble. See, when I put it like that...don't you guys see how weird it is for Winston to be the "new villain" all because of some guy he slept with???????? He's going through ALL of this for Monty??????????? It boggles my mind.
Could Monty be alive?
In the trailer, during one of Clay's hallucinations, it looks like Monty is alive and well, and then he's gone. I talked about the possibility of Monty being alive in my review of season 3 on my youtube channel last year. I would actually prefer for Monty to be alive. Monty is a suckish person, for sure. He's absolutely repulsive more times than not. However, it'd make more sense for him to be the one giving everyone problems than this random dude Winston who no one even really knows or cares about? Monty didn't even really care for him that much. The thought of Winston is annoying the crap out of me, if you guys couldn't tell. PLEASE let Monty be alive. I hated how quick his death was. It was mentioned briefly and that was it. Like he was redundant and unimportant to the story. No matter how much we hated him, he was an important piece to the puzzle, and he should've had a better death than what we were shown....or in this case told. We never saw a body or anything. So fingers crossed it's because he's alive.
My wishes for this final season:
Since this is the final season, I truly hope I can walk away from this series feeling like I don't have anymore questions. What would make me the happiest would be if Monty were still alive, and if you told me I would be saying this now two years ago after what he did to Tyler, I'd have laughed in your face. However, in terms of the overarching story, it just doesn't make sense to me for Winston to be the new "villain". If Winston and Monty teamed up, that would be more acceptable.
I just can't see anyone believing Winston though. What could he possibly say? "I was with Monty the night Bryce was killed."?? Does he have proof of that? Did they take a selfie after they had their fun or something??? Alex's dad, who's a cop, is even in on it and helping cover everything up. So Winston is gonna need some solid, concrete proof that Monty is innocent and was with him that night. It's already gonna be hard enough for anyone to believe Winston because Monty had this very homophobic "tough guy" persona. Who's going to believe he was even friends with Winston???? Especially after he beat him up at the party they met at.
I just don't know what to expect. The trailer didn't give me that umph I hoped for. My optimistic side is hoping that's because they saved the hard hitting good scenes for the actual show and left all of the greatness out of the trailer.
Also..............I hope there's a spinoff. My opinion on that could change after I see this season. But for now, I'm rooting for a spinoff.
