Coronavirus: Stop Being Selfish

March 12, 2020

< back to blog

Hi everyone! First off, I hope you all are doing okay and staying safe out there with this whole Coronavirus pandemic that's happening around the world.

I'm not going to waste any time explaining what the Coronavirus is in detail, because I feel that at this pointย everyone knows what it is, and if you don't - are you living under a rock? ๐Ÿ‘€

The primary reason for this post is really just for me to give my opinion on some things I've been hearing and seeing people say concerning this virus. And yes, I am going to have blogs occasionally where I rant about things. Ranting is just something I do, and I do it well. Especially when it's about something important to me. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ I want to be unapologetically me on my website, and a huge part of me is saying how I feel. This is my space, so what place could be better than this to do so?

Anyways, let me get to the point.

As we all know, this Coronavirus is spreading around the world. It's reached my country (United States), and is beginning to spread pretty rapidly around the country.

Me, I'm not surprised. Once I saw it getting worse in New York, I knew things couldn't be good. I didn't think it would get this bad this quickly, but considering what's happening in Italy and other places (thousands and thousands are dying) - I knew it would spread quickly if it arrived here.

And let me tell ya, people in this country have been saying the dumbest, most inconsiderate things ever. I'm ashamed to be surrounded by so many selfish people.

I've had people correcting me constantly saying, "It's not worse than the flu. More people die from the flu," even though I've actually been consistently keeping up with what's been going on and they have not. For the record, my response to that is no sh*t sherlock, of course more people have DIED from the flu. The flu has been around for literal millenniums. However, the MORTALITY RATE of coronavirus is 3.4% (for now), whereas the seasonal flu kills less than 1% of those affected. That's a pretty big difference for this virus to be so new. The coronavirus was discovered less than half a year ago. Smart people, do the math. Know-it-alls are always the ones that don't know much of anything.

I've seen people saying, "Everyone is overreacting. It's not even that serious. It only affects really old people and people with bad immune systems!" Uh....so you're saying that with your chest like those people don't matter or something???? I'm sorry but if you're brushing this off because it affects those people and not you, that's giving me psychopath energy. Those people's lives matter too. My grandmother's life matters. The older people in my life matter. The people in my life who don't have the best immune systems like babies and even people of age MATTER. Anybody in this world who falls in the category of those most likely to be heavily affected MATTER. Think about someone besides yourself for once. The funny part is, the people I've been seeing say this DON'T EVEN HAVE THE BEST IMMUNE SYSTEMS. Guys, it's really wild.

Another thing I've been seeing..."Why are they closing everything down and being so reactive? It's not even here yet." Why does it matter if it's not hErE yEt? Someone said that in my city recently, and guess what? It was just announced today that it's HERE. IN MY CITY. The next day after that was said. Ironic, huh? I'm extremely glad my city is trying to take precautions while they can. I mean, it was already in my state....so it was only a matter of time. So imagine wondering why officials are taking action and why schools are being closed. Take a wild guess. So people don't get AS sick as they would if nothing was done beforehand. Aduh.

I mean guys, the amount of stupidity and selfishness I've been hearing and seeing lately is absolutely insane. If the NBA, NHL and MLB are all suspending/delaying further games for now...if E3 is cancelled....if Coachella is being postponed until OCTOBER...if schools are being closed....if Disney Land and Universal Studios Hollywood are both closed...if shows that have a live audience such as Wendy Williams, The View, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Ellen and more are doing tapings with NO live audience doesn't tell you that this is something to take serious, then I don't know, maybe catching the virus will open some eyes???? Because some billion dollar franchises and events are being postponed, cancelled, etc. and with how money hungry people are, I'm sure they wouldn't just put those things aside just because.

Am I scared? No. Am I concerned? Yes. I have been for a while now. I think any of us that have a heart should be concerned, even if it's slightly. I also think people should use their brains and stop being so consumed within themselves.

Key Takeaways:ย

-If you're just a selfish, narcissistic person...rock that ish. But just know that just because you have a good immune system and aren't considered "old" or "really young", you can still SPREAD IT to those that fall under that criteria. So that's still you being worried about yourself. I think it's crazy that people are still traveling to and from places that have the coronavirus when they DON'T HAVE TO.

-It's better to be safe than sorry. Just because it hAsN't bEeN aNnOuNcEd wHeRe yOu lIve...doesn't mean it won't be and it doesn't mean that nobody in your city has it. With that mentality, you're saying every single person where you live has been to the doctor and gotten tested within the past 24 hours. Which obviously is impossible and not true. You don't know WHO could have it where you live. I'm sure the people in my city didn't realize that two positive cases would be announced here today. But it was. Just like that. Be thankful that places and events are taking necessary measures to ensure that people are as safe as possible.

-Even if it's "not serious", why wouldn't you want to be safe just in case? Yes, people die every day. And I don't know, maybe death doesn't affect some of you people out there. But just because it hasn't infected you or someone you care about (yet) doesn't mean you're invincible. Please get your mentalities in check.

That's really all I have to say.ย I'm not saying to freak out and go ape sh*t or anything.ย I'm just saying....use your brain and stop acting like old people and immunocompromised people don't matter. The young and old are people too. How would you feel if people kept acting like your life was invaluable? Stop being selfish.

For those of you that have been concerned and caring of others, I appreciate you. Stay safe and be cautious. Even if you're confined to your home, make the most of it. Play some video games. ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’›

PS: If you guys felt like this post was a bit much, that's fine. I'm not for everyone and I'm completely fine with that. At least it shows that I actually care about people other than myself. ๐Ÿค—

And no, I'm not doing my "xo babes, Variety Princess", because it doesn't seem very fitting right now. ๐Ÿ˜
